Come and join us for a tasting from local producer, Heck German Sausages on the 21st October 2.30-4.30pm. Try delicious sausages and other tasty meat morsels.

Owner, Ulrich Heck will be firing up the BBQ outside the Mapua County Store for you to try the unique combination of best quality NZ meats with traditional German sausage recipes.

The family Heck, has a history from the 1850s as a butchery and restaurant in the southern German town of Diedesheim. Ever since, the family has developed new and perfected traditional German sausage recipes and handed them down from generation to generation.

In 1925 my grandfather Robert Heck moved to Heidelberg, one of Germany’s most beautiful cities. He started his own butchery shop, then leaving the prospering business to my father Günter Heck in 1960. While my two brothers left the family trade, I decided to stay, following my ancestors’ tradition in the German butcher business.

Ulrich Heck moved to Christchurch aiming to bring the best of Germany’s authentic art of butchery and sausage making and opened ‘Heck German Smallgoods Ltd’ in 2006. They handpicked Canterbury farmers to supply them with premium New Zealand meats, ensuring only the very best ingredients will be used in our products.

Kervella Cheese - Golden Bay - Tasting

Kervella Cheese - Golden Bay - Tasting

Kervella Cheese - Golden Bay - Tasting in store Friday 24th September 1-3pm

Kervella Cheese is a partnership between Gabrielle Kervella and Alan Cockman. Gabrielle has been making cheese since the early 1980s, learning the art under several master cheesemakers in France. Since then she has run a goat’s cheese business in Gidgegannup, Western Australia. Her cheeses were acclaimed across the Eastern Seaboard.  She has been credited with putting goat’s cheese ‘on the map’.

Alan and Gabrielle moved to Golden Bay in 2008 and settled on a small farm in East Takaka.  Their dairy is set to produce a range of quality cheeses, starting with a mountain cheese - a cross between a gouda and a cheddar.  The selection will be expanded as the business progresses.

Kervella Cheese sources milk from neighbours who practice holistic farm management.  The focus is on fresh, quality milk from happy, healthy cows.

The dairy and cheese-making equipment was built by Alan on their East Takaka property.   The dairy has undergone rigorous certification processes to comply with all health and safety regulations.

The small maturing room has taken many months to perfect for the affinage or maturing process of the cheese.  All the cheeses are made personally by Alan with help from Gabrielle.
